Dear Mom, How are things out in Boulder?
I'm between jobs here in TN.
And I know I came
down to start over
but that's not as easy as I used to think.
Don't tell Dad but
last night I called Bobby.
Guess I was feeling sorry for myself.
And he said that I
should stop calling
and told me that he's found somebody else.
Do you know how bad that felt?
Like there's a Mountain
in Memphis
just like back in Boulder.
The climb keeps getting harder
and I'm only feeling older.
There's a mile-high heartache.
The other side's out of reach.
There's a mountain in Memphis
but maybe the mountain's in me.
Here's a picture of my little Lori.
Can't believe she's really 18 months
and she loves the doll that you sent her.
She don't even know that times are tough
or why her mommy cries so much
like there's a mountain
in Memphis
just like back in Boulder.
The climb keeps getting harder
and I'm only feeling older.
There's a mile-high heartache.
The other side's out of reach.
There's a mountain in Memphis
but maybe the mountain's in me.
But when she crawls in my lap
or looks at me and laughs
for a while I forget about the fall
and we rise above it all.
Like there's a mountain
in Memphis
just like back in Boulder.
The climb keeps getting sweeter
every time I hold her.
There's a mile-high feeling
I never thought I'd reach.
There's a mountain in Memphis,
and maybe that's good enough for me.
