MOUNTAIN IN MEMPHIS

Dear Mom, How are things out in Boulder?
I'm between jobs here in TN.
And I know I came down to start over
but that's not as easy as I used to think.
Don't tell Dad but last night I called Bobby.
Guess I was feeling sorry for myself.
And he said that I should stop calling
and told me that he's found somebody else.
Do you know how bad that felt?

Like there's a Mountain in Memphis
just like back in Boulder.
The climb keeps getting harder
and I'm only feeling older.
There's a mile-high heartache.
The other side's out of reach.
There's a mountain in Memphis
but maybe the mountain's in me.

Here's a picture of my little Lori.
Can't believe she's really 18 months
and she loves the doll that you sent her.
She don't even know that times are tough
or why her mommy cries so much

like there's a mountain in Memphis
just like back in Boulder.
The climb keeps getting harder
and I'm only feeling older.
There's a mile-high heartache.
The other side's out of reach.
There's a mountain in Memphis
but maybe the mountain's in me.

But when she crawls in my lap
or looks at me and laughs
for a while I forget about the fall
and we rise above it all.

Like there's a mountain in Memphis
just like back in Boulder.
The climb keeps getting sweeter
every time I hold her.
There's a mile-high feeling
I never thought I'd reach.
There's a mountain in Memphis,
and maybe that's good enough for me.

PROVE ME WRONG

The sands are in the hourglass.
Our future now is almost past.
Just one more day
and it'll be too late.

I've got one foot outside the door,
too hurt to try anymore.
All out of tears,
leaving's all that's left to fear.
My best was just not good enough.
So it's up to you
but I'll meet you halfway there.
All you've gotta do is

   Prove me wrong
   while we're still holding on.
   Make me believe
there's something left of you + me.
   Change my mind.
Give me love that can turn back time.
If it really is that strong,
   prove me wrong.

Looking back from where we are
I wonder how it came apart.
But somehow it did.
Now it's down to this.
We started with a burning flame.
It seems to me such a crying shame
that the letting go
has to be so cold.

So let's go out in style
if we're calling this the end.
We've got tonight to try
and find that fire again.

   Prove me wrong
   while we're still holding on.
   Make me believe
there's something left of you + me.
   Change my mind.
Give me love that can turn back time.
If it really is that strong,
   prove me wrong.

DON'T!

(Monoff/Monoff)
© 1993 Chlodwig Music/BMG

It's one of those days
she's sure that something will happen.
Blackbirds are singing in her head.
Takes one of those looks
to make her heart go boom-boom-boom.
She's ready to give and she's ready to get.

His voice is like music.
His words are the tune.
She's ready to listen
to what he wants her to do.
And she says:

   Don't play with my heart.
   Don't leave me waiting,
   waiting for an answer
   and run with my heart.
   Don't leave me waiting.
   Don't! Don't!

It's one of those songs
made to be sung together
with the taste of sweet longings on your lips
and one of those days
she's sure that something will happen.
She'll make his heart go.

Wherever he takes her
it will be okay.
She's ready to follow
anyway.
And she says:

   Don't play with my heart.
   Don't leave me waiting
   waiting for an answer
   and run with my heart.
   Don't leave me waiting.
   Don't! Don't!

His turn to choose now
which way to go.
Tuned to his music
she just won't say no.
And she says:

    Don't play with my heart.
   Don't leave me waiting
   waiting for an answer
   and run with my heart.
   Don't leave me waiting.
   Don't! Don't!

Music is medicine. Love is medicine.
Let love touch and fill your heart through music.
Let it shine to make this world a little brighter.
Every single day. Everywhere you are. Always.
